Last supper in Pyongyang

Ryugyong Hotel 柳京酒店 is an uncompleted 105-storey concrete skyscraper, begun in 1987 and abandoned in 1992. There has been news that Egypt's Orascom Group has recommenced work on the building in 2008.

The ice skating rink is reminiscent of Oscar Niemeyer's cathedral in Brasilia.

Our farewell dinner with the three guides and the driver had a menu of cold noodles, pancakes, eggs and squid - very generous for a country with chronic food shortage. We were helped along with local beer and a bottle of French red wine.
